At the Fleet Feet winter conference held in Phoenix Arizona in January 2007, Balega was please to the InDuna Award to Bobby Biles and Rona Van Willigen of Fleet Feet Carrboro. Bobby and Rona have been actively involved in multiple community service initiatives including hosting events with various charities as beneficiaries, facilitating the purchase of track equipment for disadvantaged youth, the donation of closeout products to benefit the local school system in the Carrboro area, as well as his support of the Leadville (Colorado) Legacy Project. Both Bobby and Rona will travel with us to South Africa in June and will both compete in the Comrades Marathon on June 17th.

In November 2006 at 'The Running Conference' held in Austin Texas, Balega was please to present the inugural 'Ubuntu' award to Paul Carrozza of Run Tex. The word 'Ubuntu' has no literal translation in to English, but in essence it means humanism, a shared world view or vision of humanity. The principle of caring for each other, and a spirit of mutual support. A person with Ubuntu is open and available to others, generous, hospitable, caring and compassionate. More broadly it is the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity. The Ubuntu award recognizes the running store or individual who manages to best encapsulate this philosophy through their everyday interaction with customers and community. The award will be presented at this event on an annual basis, and the recipient will be invited to South Africa as our guest to experience the spirit of Ubuntu first hand. Balega is proud to be a supporting sponsor of the inaugural Running Event which is being held between November 12 and 15 at the Austin Convention Center and Austin Hilton in Austin Texas. The event hopes to attract a broad cross section of both run specialty retailers and vendors involved in the running industry. We would encourage all Balega retailers who have the opportunity to attend the conference and expo. See you in Austin! |

We are pleased to announce that Balega socks are now available in Canada! On August 1st we shipped our first orders from the DC in British Columbia to retailers in and around the Vancouver area. Details of all Balega retailers can be found on the dealer listing on the Balega website. Through the end of 2006 we will continue to expand distribution of Balega socks to retailers in British Columbia. In 2007 we will roll out distribution in to the rest of Canada. |

On Friday, June 9th, InDuna Award winner Jeff Wells of Fleet Feet Jackson left the US to travel to South Africa to present the Ethembeni Scholarship check and to take part in the Comrades Marathon.  After arriving in Cape Town on Saturday afternoon, Jeff gets down to some serious partying at Moyo, an African restaurant in Stellenbosch.  After a hard night of dancing, Jeff spends a leisurely Sunday seeing the sights in Cape Town.    On Tuesday the team traveled to Durban and Jeff got his first look at the Comrades route.   Jeff visited Ethembeni School and presented the scholarship check to Headmaster Braam Mouton.  The pupils performed a traditional dance in Jeff's honor. |
